Celebrating New Year Safely When You Have Asthma 🎆

Issue #11

Hello Friends,

New Year celebrations are meant to feel hopeful and joyful but if you live with asthma, this time of year can also bring a quiet sense of worry.

Fireworks, smoke, cold winter air, strong fragrances, late nights… all of these can turn a celebration into an asthma flare-up if we’re not careful.

Over the years, I’ve realised that celebrating with asthma isn’t about avoiding fun, it’s about planning smartly.

That’s why I’ve shared a new blog on Asthma Friend:

Asthma Management During New Year Celebrations: How to Celebrate Safely Without Triggering Attacks

đź’ A Personal Reflection

There were years when I felt disappointed on New Year’s Eve, not because I didn’t want to celebrate, but because I knew my asthma might not cooperate.

I remember times when fireworks smoke lingered in the air, my chest felt tight, and instead of counting down to midnight, I was counting my breaths. For a long time, I thought this meant I was “missing out.”

But slowly, my perspective changed.

I learned that stepping back, leaving early, choosing quieter celebrations, or even staying home wasn’t weakness, it was self-respect. The best New Year moments weren’t the loudest ones; they were the ones where I felt safe, calm, and in control of my breathing.

If you’ve ever felt guilty for prioritising your health during celebrations, I want you to know this:
Your breath matters more than any countdown.

What You’ll Find in the Blog

In this guide, I’ve covered:

  • Why New Year celebrations can be challenging for asthma
  • Common triggers like fireworks, passive smoking & fragrances
  • Simple, practical tips to celebrate safely
  • How to enjoy the moment without pushing your body beyond its limits

Whether you’re attending a small gathering, celebrating at home, or keeping things low-key, this guide is here to support you.

Let’s welcome the New Year with kindness toward our lungs 💚
Celebrate the New Year, not an asthma attack.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, joyful, and asthma-friendly New Year.

Issue #13 Hi friend, I want to share something close to my heart today. For most of my life, asthma education meant fear. Pamphlets filled with warnings.Doctor visits filled with instructions. And a constant feeling of “If you mess this up, you’ll pay for it with your breath.” No one ever taught me asthma in a way that felt human. No one helped me practice real-life situations: How to notice danger early How to react without panic How to build confidence instead of fear Everything was...

Issue #12 Hi Everyone, I wanted to share something very close to my heart today. When you live with asthma, one of the hardest moments isn’t just the symptoms, it’s the confusion during flare-ups.What should I do now?Is this serious? When do I escalate? I’ve personally felt that panic more times than I can count. That’s why I finally built something I’ve wanted to create for a long time a free Asthma Action Plan Generator. This tool helps you: Create a clear, personalized asthma action plan...

Issue #10 Hi Friends, Last Sunday, I shared a personal reel about something I carried silently for years, being ashamed to use my inhaler in school and later even at work. Many of you related, and that made me realize something important: 👉 The first step towards asthma awareness in India is owning our stories. But here’s the truth, my story alone won’t be enough to bring the change we all want. This is not my community, this is our community. That’s why I would love for you to share your...
