Why I Turned Asthma Education Into Games

Issue #13

Hi friend,

I want to share something close to my heart today.

For most of my life, asthma education meant fear.

Pamphlets filled with warnings.
Doctor visits filled with instructions.
And a constant feeling of “If you mess this up, you’ll pay for it with your breath.”

No one ever taught me asthma in a way that felt human.

No one helped me practice real-life situations:

  • How to notice danger early
  • How to react without panic
  • How to build confidence instead of fear

Everything was reactive.
Everything came after the attack.

That’s the real reason I created Asthma Friend Games.

Not to make asthma “fun.”
But to make learning less scary.

Asthma Spotter Game
This game exists because triggers don’t announce themselves. In real life, asthma attacks often start quietly. A smell, dust in the air, a closed room. I built this game to train early awareness. It helps you slow down, observe your surroundings, and notice things you might normally ignore before they turn into symptoms.

Asthma Myth Buster Quiz
Growing up, I heard countless myths. “You’ll outgrow asthma.” “Inhalers are addictive.” “Exercise is bad for asthma.” Some myths created fear. Others created guilt. This game gently helps unlearn misinformation through curiosity instead of lectures. Clarity brings confidence, and confidence changes how you manage asthma.

A Day in the Life with Asthma
Asthma doesn’t exist only during emergencies. It shows up in ordinary days like school, work, travel, and social plans. This game walks through everyday scenarios because asthma management is about daily decisions, often made quietly. It validates the invisible mental load of living with asthma and reminds you that you’re not overthinking. You’re managing.

Trigger Match Memory Game
Asthma is personal. What triggers me may not trigger you. This game was built to help your brain connect your own patterns between symptoms, triggers, and environments in a calm, pressure-free way. It strengthens memory without fear so your responses slowly become intuitive instead of stressful.

Asthma Inhaler Techniques Game
This one is especially close to my heart. Many of us were handed an inhaler and told, “Just use it.” No practice. No feedback. No reassurance. This game removes shame and uncertainty around inhaler use. Using an inhaler correctly shouldn’t feel embarrassing. It should feel empowering.

These games aren’t about points or winning.

They’re about feeling prepared.

They’re about that quiet confidence of saying,
“I’ve thought through this before. I know what to do.”

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, scared, or alone while managing asthma, these games were made for you.

And as always, I’d love to hear what you feel while playing them.

Issue #11 Hello Friends, New Year celebrations are meant to feel hopeful and joyful but if you live with asthma, this time of year can also bring a quiet sense of worry. Over the years, I’ve realised that celebrating with asthma isn’t about avoiding fun, it’s about planning smartly. That’s why I’ve shared a new blog on Asthma Friend: Asthma...

Issue #10 Hi Friends, Last Sunday, I shared a personal reel about something I carried silently for years, being ashamed to use my inhaler in school and later even at work. Many of you related, and that made me realize something important: 👉 The first step towards asthma awareness in India is owning our stories. But here’s the truth, my story alone won’t be enough to bring the change we all want. This is not my community, this is our community. That’s why I would love for you to share your...
